Company mission and vision
Brown coal (lignite) mining remains a critical area of the Company’s business. In the strategic period from 2009 to 2013, we expect the volume extracted to be at a level of 2.2 million metric tons, with a gradual decline to 2 million tons. The exploited amount corresponds to the optimal mining capacity and reflects existing marketing opportunities for consumption by the Elektráreň Nováky generating plant.
The Company’s vision in the coal mining sector is to win stocks rationally from mines at Cigeľ, Handlová and Nováky, satisfy requirements in the general economic interest through the production of electricity and ensure the Company’s stability and the satisfaction and social care of its employees.
We have been developing new projects in the area of automotive transportation, hotel management, accommodation and catering services and in the power engineering and waste management industries which are contributing to the development of the region. We have also been supporting research in clean coal technologies.
The accepted strategy gives real expectations that Hornonitrianske bane Prievidza will also be operating in the future as the largest brown coal mining company in the Slovak Republic and the largest employer in the Upper Nitra region.
